Bloggers Meet and Greet October, 2018

Hi everyone. We will be celebrating the Harvest Full Moon, which will be visible Monday, September 24, 2018.

Full Moon

Do you know why this full moon is called the Harvest full moon? According to earthsky.org., it is the full moon closest to the Autumn equinox. In addition they further add that this full moon near the horizon sunset may have a orange looking color to it as well. In other words, it rises closes to the sunset.

It got it’s name because back in the day the lamp of the Harvest moon helped farmers gather their crops and as the sun’s light faded in the west, the moon would rise in the east to illuminate the fields throughout the night. How awesome is that. Have you heard the song “Shine on Harvest Moon?” by Nora Bayes and Jack Norworth in 1903. This name Harvest Moon was popularized in the 20th Century by that song.
