9 Lessons Learned

Do you heed to life lessons that you learn or do you keep repeating the lessons over and over again?

 Life Skill Lessons

***Good News***

1. Never Give Up

Lessons of faith are needed to never give up. Did you know that never giving up is a life lesson to consider? Have there been times you have been told by a teacher, “You will never be able to do this or that?” Have you been told by another, “That will never happen?” Have you been told, “You are not good enough.” Have you been passed over for several job positions that you may have applied for? Have you attempted to apply for a loan only to be turned down? Just because this happen does not mean it is the end, because when you are turned down, this is the time to become creative and continue trying. People have been turned down for car loans and bank loans, but did you know there are other places that will not turn you down. Possibly that institution did not have the funds for you, but another institution will.

I recall one news anchor stating that she sent in 100 interview tapes before receiving an interview and finally landing a job. Yes 100 sounds like a lot, but it also sounds like she was persistent in her endeavor.

I also discovered that everyone that applies for the bar or to get their nursing license  may not pass on the first attempt. Now they may not tell you that, but it does happen and they never gave up.

2. Job Interviews

I recalled interviewing for a position by 2 people. I answered every question that both of them asked of me and still did not get the position. I later called one of the persons and asked them what could I have done better? I was told, “There was nothing you could do, you were perfect.” Still apparently someone else was decided upon. That does happen. Every position is not meant for you even though you may really want the position.

I remember a young lady that was very well qualified for several positions, but seemingly never landed the job. Finally after numerous interviews the position she landed in her words, “Was the perfect position for me.” She said that everything just seemed to fall into place. She was persistent, never giving up even though saddened when she was not chosen for numerous positions. Sometimes you might be anxious and want things to happen right then. Even though you might have all the credentials and training it might not be your time. There is a time and season for everything. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.

3. Good Things

Good things do not always come easy. Everyone does not come from a rich family. Sometimes you may have to work harder than others. Did college or high school learning seem easy to you or did you have to work hard.  Did you stay up late to study? Everyone is different. Staying focused on a goal and being able to eventually achieve it is “bitter sweet.” I recall when in high school some classes were so easy for me, but then other classes I would struggle with. Can you relate to this?

4. Becoming an Adult

I recall as a teenager anxiously awaiting to become an adult and have my own things and make my own choices. That is great but note there is always someone that you will have to answer to. If not answering to your parents you will answer to you boss, to the laws of the land, or to something else. This is a lesson some teenagers and adults find hard to learn. They do not want to answer to anyone. Laws are put in place for a reason.

5. Speeding

Do you drive over the speed limit when driving? Have you been caught by the police? Did you learn from this or lesson or have you been continually stopped for speeding? Do you need to change your way of thinking? Is it more important to speed to get where you are going or could you drive the speed limit and still get to your destination safely? Do you have so many tickets that you have lost your driving privileges? Have you learned your lesson? You do know that driving is a privilege right?

6. Stop Sign

Have you ever heard of “roll and stop.” I recall not stopping at a stop sign, doing a quick glance and just rolling along. The State Police stopped me immediately. He asked me did I know whey he stopped me. I could not deny it and admitted that I “rolled and did not stop.” He took my license, ran a check on it, then came back to me and told me to start taking time to stop at the stop signs. He then let me go. I was surprised that he did, but I also was glad. He had mercy on me. That was a lesson that I did learn. You do not have to tell me twice. The outcome could have been much different.

7. Better to Give than to Receive

Acts 20:35. It is more blessed to give than to receive. Often it might not feel that way, because you may feel you have so little. I remember a lady that was always giving. I asked her how she did this. She once told me, “Betty you cannot take it with you, why not give what you have.” I had never thought of it that way. Our natural nature is to hold on to what we have because we do not want to be without. I can admit I have been guilty of this. Possibly maybe you have too. Giving to others can be beneficial to you as well as to those that you give to. Giving does not have to necessarily be money. We live in a world where we barter. You might want to give your time to others. You might have beautiful purse that you want to give to another. When you get creative there are so many ways that you can give of yourself.

8. Intentional

I have learned it is important to be intentional. Do the words you speak have a purpose? Do you think before speaking, “What am I trying to convey to this person?” Do you think, “Am I adding purpose to this conversation?” Don’t just talk to be talking. Have a purpose. Be intentional.

9. Wonderfully Made

Psalm 139:14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Do you realize your body is wonderfully made. Yes the flesh does not last like the spirit does, but it is up to you to take care of your wonderful body as long as you are able. What do you put into your body? Have you used and abused your body in such a way that it is in terrible shape? Do you attempt to run your body like a machine and never repair it? Be mindful of what you eat. Remember the body needs to rest at some point. You might think you want to continue without rest, but sooner or lady your body might just stop on it’s own. Be thankful for what you do have and stop dwelling on what you don’t have. Be grateful.

Stop complaining and whining. When I look at Mike Vujicic, a man born without arms and legs with no medical explanation, I will not complain. According to wdsu.com Mike shared God helped him overcome obstacles. They further add he is married and has 4 beautiful children. Now that is a beautiful testimony.

Now what is your excuse?

These are a few of the life lessons that I have learned. What life lessons have you learned?

Great thoughts and examples. I get frustrated sometimes when I forget the lessons I've learned before! Keep trying is one of the best lessons, though, because you have a chance to re-learn. I think what you mentioned in #2 is really important--sometimes it doesn't "make sense" that things aren't working out, but there may be something better ahead. That's a great lesson! Thanks for sharing this post at the Will Blog for Comments #29 linkup. Hope to see you next week, too.
