Do You or Your Child Doubt God?

There may have been a time in your life that you or your child doubted the supreme being; God? Some of us have been there and done that. Always remember that even though you may change, God never changes.

Belief

Did you know that God is omnipresent? Have you heard the expression why do bad things happen to good people? Life has it’s ups and down. You may have good days and some bad days, but remember Hebrew 13:5; “Let your manner of living be without covetousness, and be content with such things as ye have. For He hath said, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”

1. Why?

As a child, I remember asking God, “Why?” “Why Me?” “Why do you allow this to happen to children?” Maybe there are those of you that have asked the same thing at some point in your life. I wonder have you ever asked yourself, “Why did God allow me to survive that ordeal?” Even as an adult, have you sometimes asked God Why? Do you remember as a child feeling there were so many things out of your control? You can tell your child to deal with the things that he/she can control. Things that you have no control over can be turned over to God. You can pray. Although we may not know God’s plan in every situation you can trust that he will take care of you.

2. Doubt

Doubt and unbelief is not of God. John 10:10. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. If your child were to make a statement such as, “I don’t believe in God, since He allowed my friend to be killed in that car accident.” This would be the time you need to speak God’s word. God’s word is real. Speak the promises of God. Jeremiah 29:11- “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. How many times have you spoken out of hurt and anger, saying hurtful and spiteful things? Well your child may be angry at God just as he/she gets angry with you. I can honestly say there have been times in my life, when I did not know what to say or what to pray regarding my children, but I did know to speak God’s word, regardless to what it felt or looked like. Believe me many times it may have looked very gloom.

3. Reason

As I grew older, I still realized the power of prayer. Although, when I asked, “Why?” as a child, I did not understand then that God possibly allowed some things to happen to make me stronger and to lead my children and their unborn children closer to God, because sins follow a family through 4 generations. Yes, sins of the fathers can travel through 4 generations. I realized he allowed me to survive to be a witness of what God can do. Also, to show me that I do not have to remain a victim. Even as an adult, I have questioned God, because I did not understand His divine plan, but I know that He knows. I once told a former prospective employer, “I do not know what my future holds, but I do know who holds my future.”

4. Trusting God

God’s word is real and alive. Heb. 4:12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edge sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Scientist are now discovering what God’s word has said from the beginning of time. Spoken words can and do become a reality. The Bible is an instructional manual to the believers that are saved. What ever we need God’s got it. Just ask and you shall receive it. Feelings can be tricky. I cannot count the number of times that I have felt one way and still spoke what God says, not necessarily how I am feeling at the time. Feelings can be up and down. You may feel good today and bad tomorrow, but God’s word never changes. We may change, but not God.

Tips:

A.
Praise God during bad times and good times. This may be difficult to do during bad times, but it is possible.

B.
Pray for the wisdom of God to know when to speak and when to
listen. James 1:19; My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry. Do not have diarrhea of the mouth. Don’t just speak your truth because you can.

C.
Not knowing can be trying, but trusting in God can strengthen your faith.

D.
Remember not necessarily in our time, but God’s time. How often do you want something to happen right now? Do you believe that you have a microwave God? If God does not give you an answer right then and there when you want it, do you become impatient and decide to try and fix the problem without God? I am guilty as charged.

E.
Has there been a time that you doubted God and he brought you out? I can recall numerous times that he has brought me out. I am so thankful too. I welcome your comments.
