What All Can My Cellphone Do? 19 Amazing Features You Might Not Be Using

Did you know that your cellphone can help you stay organized, learn new skills, capture memories, and much more?

+++Purpose+++

 1.    Track your daily steps

I have talked in the past about free walking apps that record your daily steps on your cellphone as you walk throughout your day.  This is so convenient. I recall in the past I had a pedometer to measure how many steps I walked, but with the app on my cellphone it is so much easier.

2.     Identify plants, flowers, birds, and insects

I have not used this app, but I have seen many advertisements. They are advertising to take a picture of a diseased plant, and it will tell you exactly what you need to do.   It also tells you how to identify certain flowers, birds, and insects.

3.    Your Wallet on Your Phone

Have you heard the expression you are carrying your entire wallet on your phone?   When you think about it that is true.  I recall when picking up a relative at the airport returning from vacation.  She thought she had lost her wallet in the airport.  We called the police and looked everywhere.   She started thinking, “My credit cards are on there.”  Also, there was probably much more on the phone than was realized at the time.  Thankfully she discovered it had fallen into a big carrying bag that she had in addition to her purse.   We were so thankful that she found it.

4.    Digital Wallet

When making payments at retail stores it is so convenient to use your digital wallet on your phone.   Some stores have their own digital wallets that you can use on your phone.  Those of you that own a Smart Phone, Apple Pay has a digital wallet directly on your cellphone.

5.    Kiosks for Fast Food

I have observed especially when traveling many of the fast-food Restaurants such as McDonald’s have Kiosks available.   You are encouraged to order on your phone and you have the option to pay from your phone or to pay at the cash register when your food is ready.  I also observed many young people are using this option.

6.   Recordings on Your Cellphone

You can record conversations or music as well on your cellphone.  No need to have a bulky tape recorder.   Once you record you can save it in your files on your cellphone and neatly keep them organized there.

 7.  Voice Commands

You may have taken these things for granted, but using Siri voice command on your cellphone can be a life saver if you really do not like to text.   Just tell Siri what it is you want to do.   Simple as that.

 8.   Flashlight

You do know there is a picture of a little flashlight on the bottom left corner of your Smartphone.   When you want to use it just push down on it and you instantly have a flashlight.  How convenient.

9.     SOS ( Request for Help)

Your Smart phone has SOS emergency features on it.  You can list your emergency contact in this area so if you do have an emergency your information is listed there. It should be listed in your contacts on your cellphone.  Also note that if you are unable to make a call for instance in a car crash, SOS will send a satellite search for emergency help.   This is so nice.

 10.   Audiobooks and Podcasts

These are my favorites.   When I am preparing in the morning after I get up, I usually listen to my audiobooks.  This is so convenient having them on my cellphone.   I use my earphones so as not to disturb anyone else.

 11.    Camera

Now cameras are everywhere.  If you are doing something wrong beware.   Anyone can pull their cellphone out and start recording.   They will have you on camera and can submit it to a live feed immediately with no waiting or hesitation.   Cameras record in real-time.   There was a time when young people were recording fights at school and posting them on social media.  I believe they eventually figured out this might not be such a great idea.   In the beginning they thought this was funny but discovered this is evidence that can be held against you or others and it is not so funny.

 12.   Deposit Checks

You can deposit checks and pay your bills on your cellphone.

 13.   Ringtones

Have you set ringtones on your cellphone?  You might want a different ringtone for text messaging, while an even different one for your actual cellphone calls that you might receive.

 14.   Games

I see many people playing games on their cellphones.  It is so common now to see.  My favorite games are Mahjong games.  I play them in the evening. I have found them to be relaxing.  I also like Dominoes.  Dominoes is a game of skills.

15.    Bible

I like that I can have the free Bible on my cellphone.  No, it does not have the Hebrew and Greek Concordance within it, but it does have scripture and it also has numerous versions such as NIV, KJV, and many more. However, the Hebrew and Greek Concordance can be bought in an app called Strongs dict Greek/ Hebrew Dict for $26.99.   Yes, it is at a cost.

16.    QR Codes (Quick Returns)

Have you ever thought about how convenient it is to just return an item to Amazon or other retailers and just allow a QR Code from your phone to be scanned?  You just take your return purchase into the store or postal area designated and show your QR Code.  You also have the option to preprint your mailing label at home or request the label and packaging be done when the QR code is presented.  I prefer just taking my item into the store, present the QR code and let the store be responsible for the mailing of my return package.    You may take this for granted, but it is so convenient.

17.     Stopwatch

Did you know that your iPhone has an online stopwatch?  Yes, there is no need to buy a stopwatch you already have one.

18.     Watching Movies

You can even watch movies on your iPhone.  That is not one of my preferences because of the blue light that comes from the cellphone.  According to sleepfoundation.org., blue light from screens can suppress melatonin production, while stimulating content such as social media, games, or work emails may make it more difficult to relax before bed.  They further added that reducing screen time in the hour before bed or using features light night mode may help minimize the impact of electronics on sleep.  Remember before bedtime you want to wind down for better sleep.

 19.     Face ID and Passcodes

Again, this may be something that you have taken for granted, but Face ID and Passcodes on your cellphone are there as an added layer of security for you.  You can even sign-on to many of your apps just using facial recognition.  Think about it your cellphone can do a lot.

What other things can you think of that your Cellphone can do?  I would love to hear about them.
