Did you know that your thoughts matter more than you realize? What you focus on grows.
+++Purpose+++
1. Renew
Your Mind
Romans 12:2 “Do
not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of
your mind.” Then you will be able to
test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Ephesians 6:12 “For we wrestle not against
flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers
of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” You might ask, “Why renew my mind?” Do you remember times that you may have felt
despair, angry, sad? Do you remember
times that you may have felt jealously or threatened? Feelings are real, but they do not have to
be your ultimate reality. I remember
feeling anxious regarding a new job. I
remember feeling helpless when my children were sick. Now your story may be different than mine,
but the point is regardless to how you may feel, you can speak encouragement to
yourself and to your mind.
I recall a
lady making a statement, “Old Arthur is acting up.” I asked her, “Who is Arthur?’ She replied, “Arthritis.” I laughed.
If you have ever heard or said something like that remember that even
though you may not feel well you can still speak encouraging words to
yourself. They may not necessarily be
bible scriptures, but they can be positive words such as, “this is only
temporary.” “I will feel better real soon.”
The mind has a way of eventually believing what you say. So be careful what comes out of your mouth. Matthew
15:11 “Not that which goeth into the mouth defiles a man, but that which cometh
out of the mouth, this defiles a man.” No I am far from a bible scholar, but as I am
writing the Holy Spirit is bringing to my remembrance bible scriptures. I am thankful for this.
2. Your Words Have Power
Did you know
that your words have power? Think about
words that a Pimp may use to control.
Think about controlling words others may have used to control you or
someone else. Psychologytoday.com talks about
language as a neurocognitive tool by which we can transmit and exchange information,
influence and control the behavior of others, establish and demonstrate social
cohesion, and imagine and create new ways of experiencing life. They further added that we understand others
best when we can identify the purpose that frames the words.
3. Try the Spirit
Have you
ever met or ever known someone that says one thing, but their actions do not
match their words? 1 John 4:1. “Beloved,
believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: Because many false prophets are gone out
into the world.”
I remember
one of my daughters meeting a young man where she worked. They both worked long hours and weekends as
well. This young man was trying to win
my daughter’s affections. She told me
about him and wanted me to meet him. So
I did. I then asked her was he saved,
what church he attended, did he attend Bible Study? I guess it was almost like an
interrogation. She told me. I then asked her if both of you are working
all these hours when does he have time for church? She then decided to attend one of his bible
studies. When asked to come up for
prayer the young lady standing next to her, she observed had the same last name
as the young man she worked with. She
asked if the two were related. She
shared that she was the young man’s wife. It is something how God reveals
things to you. My daughter did not
hesitate to let that pastor know that the young man had been presenting himself
to her as a single man. The young man
apologized and wanted to apologize to me.
I explained to my daughter I did not want to hear from him and that he
should be apologizing to God for deceiving her. At first my daughter thought he was so great
and I imagined he said all the right words, but they were lies. Thank God his
dark side was brought to the light.
4. The Prince of Air
Have you or
anyone you know every questioned God?
Asking, “If he is God why does he allow certain things to happen.” Why do bad things happen? Did you know that
satan has been referred to as the prince of air? God allows satan a certain amount of
authority over those who are disobedient?
So, thus, there is good and bad in this world. Ephesians 2:1-2 “As for you, you were dead in
your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the
ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who
is now at work in those who are disobedient.”
Words are important. You need to
be able to discern evil from good.
5. Your Enemy
Sometimes
you might find that you are your greatest enemy. You may not allow others to talk to you in a
certain way, but how are you talking to yourself? What are you repeating repeatedly to
yourself? Proverbs 18:21 “The tongue has
the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” It is important to speak life over
yourself. How many times have you
thought that you wished you would have thought before saying certain
things? Once you say it, it is out
there.
6. Abundant Life
Have you
heard some people say, “I am living my best life.” John 10:10, “The thief does
not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that
they may have it more abundantly.” Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive
and active. Sharper than any
double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and
marrow, it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” God’s word is alive and active. So, remember when you guard your heart that
words are very important. Whether you
choose scripture, positive affirmations, or positive words, remember to think
before you speak and speak life over yourself and others.
