Did you know that you are never too old to learn that life becomes more meaningful when you discover your purpose?
Think About this. . .
***Purpose***
You do not
have to be perfect to learn about your purpose, but rather use your unique
gifts, experiences, and faith to make a positive impact. You do matter.
1. Teachers
I look at
how teachers impact thousands of lives.
I look at my daughter that barely made it through high school. She was not on the honor roll. I remember her saying to me, “I don’t know
what I want to be.” I told her she had a
gift for talking that she should become a teacher. I believe she talked so much in High School
that her teacher had her come to the front of the class to teach. Well, she did become a teacher, a principal,
and a Superintendent of School. She has
and still is impacting many lives. I am very proud of her. I
recall when she was married 5 of her students were flown in to attend her
marriage ceremony. This is just one
example.

that you may have different purposes throughout your life?
2. Parents
As a parent
you may have a purpose to direct your children hopefully so that they don’t
make the same mistakes that you made in life.
They will make mistakes, but prayerfully not the same mistakes. You don’t have to have an education to be a
good parent. You don’t have to be
perfect to be a good parent. I recall my
father raising me at an early age. He
was a Porter at a railroad station. I
never asked him if he graduated from school, but I do remember him telling me
that he picked cotton in Mississippi. I
remember him being a kind soft-spoken man that meant whatever he said without
raising his voice to me. I remember
although I did not see him attend church, he allowed me to attend church with
my neighbors. I loved church. Parents, you never know how you impact your
children. Parents, you never know how
much your children are watching you.
3. Your Children
Did you know
that life is a give and take? Just
because you are the parent does not mean that you know it all. You can learn from your children and from
your grandchildren. I recall going to
one of my grandchildren’s events when he was in elementary school. We were outside eating. A bee kept buzzing around all the food. He took a cup and covered the bee as it
landed on the table. I would never have
thought of that. We were finally able to eat in peace. Now at this same event I
knew prayer had been taken out of the schools, but I asked my grandson to bow
his head, and I would pray over our food.
I prayed aloud quietly, but to my surprised when I finished praying
everyone at our table had stopped what they were doing and said, “Amen.” I had no idea that they were listening.
Did you know
that you may have numerous talents. Your
gift is something that you do naturally without even thinking about it. It is a part of you within you. What is your gift? Some people’s gifts may be to give money or
give to others. They just automatically
will give. Another’s gift may be to lift
another up and encourage another.
4. Usefulness
I remember
talking to a young lady that walked with a limp. She shared with me she used to work at a
retail store and that she still was there, but now as a greeter.
Although she no longer worked in her previous job, she shared she still
wanted to be useful. I have observed a greeter at one store that had 2
prosthetic legs. He wore shorts. He is still being useful, and he was friendly
by making sure to tell me to have a good day.
5. Tutoring
I learned so
much from tutoring adults. Most of the
adults I tutored were older adults. Each
of them had various reasons that they wanted to learn to read. I was amazed at some of the reasons. I remember one lady telling me she had so
many doctor appointments that she could not keep up with them. I was much younger at the time. I could not imagine having that many doctor
appointments. I discovered it never
occurred to her to write them down on a calendar. I bought her a calendar and suggested that
she mark the date and times of her appointment.
When I thought about it, if I had half as many appointments as she did,
I would not have remembered them either.
We all need some type of help at some point in our life to remember some
things.
One adult
wanted to learn to read to her grandchildren.
Another had faked that she could read for so long but indicated with the
new computer age she could no longer fake reading on her job. So, she wanted to learn to read. I never thought that there were those that
faked reading. I recall one lady wanted
to start her own business, while another man was a deacon in his church. He emphasized the importance of learning to
read bible verses aloud.
This
experience proved to me that you are never too old to purpose something in your
life. One lady asked me if I thought
she would ever learn to read. I assured her that as long as she was living, I
believed in her and that she could do this. The fact that all of them had made a
commitment at this stage of their life was proof to me that it is never too
late. Also, while they did not realize
it at the time they were teaching me that this was achievable no matter what
age.
