1. Control


How do Traffickers control their victims? According to humantraffickinghotline.org., traffickers employ a variety of control tactics, the most common include physical and emotional abuse and threats, isolation from friends and family, and economic abuse. They further added that 50,123 signals were received by the Hotline in 2021.


2. Forms of Trafficking in Persons

Forms of trafficking may include forced labor and sexual servitude, bonded labor, debt bondage and involuntary servitude among migrant laborers, involuntary domestic servitude, forced child labor, child soldiers, sex trafficking and prostitution, children exploited for Commercial Sex, and child sex tourism. This is according to the human trafficking hot-line.


3. How Widespread is Human Trafficking?

Trafficking in Persons shows that in 2020 about 50,000 human trafficking victims were detected and reported by 141 countries, Europe, the Middle East, North America and some countries in East Asia and the Pacific are destinations for trafficking victims.unodc.org. Talks about this.


4. Did You Know?

Did you know that Texas is the first state in the country to make sex buying a felony, that over 30,000 people trained since 2016, and that they had 750+ years in prison sentences for human traffickers since 2016? This is according to texasattorneygeneral.gov.


5. Warning Signs of Human Trafficking

If you saw human trafficking would you recognize the signs? According to ag.nv.gov some of the signs of human trafficking may include appearing malnourished, signs of physical injuries and abuse, seeming to adhere to scripted or rehearsed responses, living at place of employment, tattoos/branding on the neck and/or lower back, and not allowing people to go into public alone or speak for themselves.


6. Worst Country for Human Trafficking

Although usnews.com listed 21 worst countries for trafficking Afghanistan was listed among them. They stated that the department noted a pattern of employing or recruiting child soldiers as well as a pattern of sexual slavery by the Taliban.


7. Human Trafficking in Michigan

Human trafficking is the second largest and fastest growing criminal industry in the world today according to humantraffickingfront.org. They further added that Grand Rapids is at the center of the Western Michigan human trafficking crisis and is currently second in the state in the number of human trafficking cases, behind only Detroit.


8. What is GHOST in Genesee County?

According to midmichigannow.com Genesee country Sheriff Christ Swanson released new data from the Genesee Human Oppression Strike Team, also know as GHOST; This team works to get supposed “child predators” off the streets, using police decoy to portray minors online. They further added that since its creation in 2018, GHOST has run operations in 53 Michigan counties, and seven other states, arresting 190 suspects.


If you have not watched the movie “Taken,” you must see this movie. It is a story of two girls going on a trip out of the country and lying to their parents as to where they actually were going. They were carefree and far too trusting of people that they met for the first time, only to fall prey of human traffickers. This was their biggest nightmare. Even after they were captured and drugged constantly, their traffickers had plans to transport them to another country and sell them to the highest bidder. It was quite a chilling picture. These girls had no idea that this was in store for them. They had plans to party that night, but that did not happen. Soon as they entered their apartment they were taken.


9. Protecting Your Child from Human Trafficking

Did you know that human trafficking starts with grooming, identifying victims vulnerabilities, isolating their victims from friends and family, gaining information and materials from victims, traffickers maintain control, children and teens can be trafficked online, children and teens can be trafficked by family members, and it involved kids of all ages and genders? This is talked about at childrensmercy.org.


10. Signs of Human Trafficking

Do you know the signs of Human trafficking? It is important to learn the signs and be aware when you see them. The texasattorneygeneral.gov. List several red flags for sex trafficking and they are as follows:


a. person seems overly fearful, submissive, tense, or paranoid.


b. person is deferring to another person before giving information.


c. person has physical injuries or branding such as name tattoos on face or chest, tattoos about money and sex, or pimp phrases.


d. identification documents are held by another.


e. overly sexual for age or situation.


These are just a few of the red flags listed.



11. How Are Victims Trafficked?

Victims may be trafficked by force including physical restraint, physical harm, sexual assault, and beatings, fraud including false promises regarding employment, wages, working condition, love, marriage, or better life, involuntary servitude which is any scheme, plan, or pattern intended to cause a person to believe that, if the person did not enter into or continue in such condition, that person or another person would suffer serious harm or physical restrain; or the abuse or threatened abuse of the legal process, and debt Bondage includes a pledge of services by the debtor or someone under debtor’s control to pay down know or unknown charges. This is talked about at act.hhs.gov.


12. Sex Trafficking Language


Did you know that Sex Trafficking has their own language? According to share hope.org., some of the language includes the following:


a. Bottom- A female appointed by the trafficker/pimp to supervise the others and report rule violations.


b. Caught A Case- A term that refers to when a pimp or victim has been arrested and charged with a crime.


c. Daddy- The term a pimp will often require his victim to call him.


d. Exit Fee- The money a pimp will demand from a victim who is thinking about trying to leave.


e. Kiddie Stroll- An area known for prostitution that features younger victims.


f. Lot Lizard- Derogatory term for a person who is being prostituted at truck stops.


g. Squaring Up- Attempting to escape or exit prostitution.


Learn to be aware, because human trafficking could be right under your nose.

Did I read that right. "Child sex tourism"? What on earth! These poor babies and I refer to any age as babies. I'm so angry and saddened. I pray for the people who have been trafficked and their families.
