Do you realize just how important your brain is? How is your brain health? Do you feed your brain? Are you concerned about your mental health?

1. Reading

How often do you read? Do you make reading a habit? Your brain health is important. I recall before my children were born I would read to them while in my womb? When they were toddlers I would take them to the library and allow them to pick out their own books. They seemed to love it and I loved taking them. I would be amazed at the different subjects they would pick. Did you know that reading consistently strengthens connections in the brain, improves memory and concentration, and may even help you live long? This is according to insider.com.


2. Stimulation of the Brain

Do you want to keep sharp? Athome.readinghorizons.com talks about the parietal lobe as part of the brain that turns letters into words, and words, into thoughts. A study done among readers showed that reading enhances and stimulates the brain. They further added that reading is clearly the best way to increase mental stimulation. The best part about mental stimulation is that it will develop new neurons, no matter how old the individual is the brain can still create and develop new neurons. That is just amazing.


3. Excessive knowledge and Lessons in Life

Why should you get into the habit of reading? Remember the importance of Brain Health What purpose does it serve? Did you know that reading is important because it develops your mind and gives you excessive knowledge and lessons of life. This is according to toppr.com. They further add that it helps you understand the world around you better and keeps your mind active and enhances your creative ability.


4. Visual or Auditory Learner

Have you ever considered whether you are a visual or auditory learner? Do you have a preference? This is something to think about. I consider myself a visual learner. I like to see it and even touch it, but I also have discovered that I prefer auditory learning. I believe I prefer auditory because when I listen to a story I see visual images in my head. Those visual pictures that I see seem very strong and very relevant. I also discovered it is easy for me to remember the auditory as well.


5. Your Brain Capacity

Did you know that your brain capacity is considered virtually unlimited according to nm.org. They further add that your brain consists of about 86 billion neurons. That is a lot of neurons I would say.


6. Hypothalamus Importance

The hypothalamus is located in the ventral brain above the pituitary gland and below the third ventricle. The National Library of Medicine talks about this. Exactly what does the hypothalamus do? Well there are 7 functions of the hypothalamus and they are releasing hormones, maintaining daily physiological cycles, controlling appetite, managing sexual behavior, regulating emotional responses, and regulating body temperature.

They further add that the hormones of the hypothalamus are Corticotropin-releasing hormone which involves the body’s response to physical and emotional stress, Gonadotropin-releasing hormone which causes the pituitary gland to produce important reproductive hormones, Thyrotopin-releasing hormone which stimulates the pituitary gland to produce the thyroid-stimulating hormone which plays an important role in the function of many body parts, such as the muscles, heart, and gastrointestinal tract, Somatostain works to stop the pituitary gland from releasing certain hormones, Oxytocin hormone controls many important behaviors and emotions such as sexual arousal, trust, recoption, and maternal behavior, and finally Vasopresin an antidiuretic hormone regulates water levels in the body -it signals the kidneys to absorb water.

This is amazing. The body is wonderfully made. Psalm 139:14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.


7. How to Keep the Brain Young

Did you know that you can keep your brain engaged throughout the aging process by listening to or playing music. It provide a total brain workout. Hopkins Medicine also talked about research that has shown that listening to music can reduce anxiety, blood pressure, and pain as well as improve sleep quality, mood mental alertness, and memory.


8. Your Brain is Super Fast

No computer can come close to your brain’s awesome ability to download, process, and react to the flood of information coming from your eyes, ear, and other sensory organs. Kids National geographic gives a very simple example of this using a cat.


9. Chemo Fog or (Chemo Brain)

Unfortunately there are those that have had Chemo Fog resulting after receiving Chemotherapy for Cancer treatment. Even so there are ways to still manage this. Cana-Farber Cancer Institute talks about regular exercise to help alleviate symptoms. This exercise might be aerobic exercise, walking, running, dancing, or cycling.     Brain exercise is very important.


10. Benefits of Trivia Games

Did you know that Trivia Games are great for increasing brain health? Oaksatdenville.org further adds that by answering questions and learning, you’re improving your cognitive skills. Retaining information about topics you’re interested in is like an exercise for your mind, allowing you to expand your intelligence and improve mental capabilities.

11. Charade Games

I love to play Charade Games with My Family. Although I am not as good at it as other family members, I observed some family members are excellent in giving clues to a team. It is as though they master the game. I sometimes just watch in amazement. The great thing about Charades is that it is a game suitable for all ages? It involves acting out words or phrases printed on cards. Goldencarer.com further adds that a game of charades provides a wonderful two-way communication opportunity that can strengthen interpersonal skills. It is also a great work-out for the brain.

My mother died last year at 92. She was an avid reader and loved to do crossword puzzles. She was still sharp days before she died.
