Have you ever thought about how important and beneficial History is to us? Why are there those that want to erase History? Why are there those that want to act as though certain people did not exist in History? Have you thought about it?
Think About This. . .
***Intentional**
1. Important People
There have been numerous people that have contributed to History. There have been numerous key players in History. Why would someone want to take that away from people? Is it racism? Is it Power? Could it be both and more?
2. Blacks were Considered Property
Did you know that there was a time when Blacks were considered property and not Citizens? Yes according to archives.gov Dred Scott v. Sandford (1857) Blacks were considered property and not citizens. That is appalling to hear, but it is a part of History that does not need to be erased. The 20th century needs to know and remember how Black’s were treated. It was not moral nor was it right.
During slavery families were split apart as well as some slaves taken to their master’s house to perform sexual acts. Unfortunately sexual enslavement still exists on a larger and different scale, with the internet, drugs, and selling people to other countries. The word for it is Sex Trafficking. How many other people have received unfair treatment? Can you name a few?
Jews, Indians, Asians, Africans, and more are just a few.
3. Cursive Writing
I recall writing a note to my grandchildren when they were young. To my surprise they told me they did not understand my handwriting. It never had occurred to me that they did little to no writing in school, but worked on computers most of the time. Now they could master the computer very well. This is sad because there may come a time they need to sign a check even though doc-sign is now on the computer.
A 2021 study by OnePoll stated a staggering 70% of Americans struggle to read their colleague’s hand-writing and 45% claim they can’t even make out their own. This is talked about at nypost.com. They discovered that IQ (Intelligence quotient) scores have dropped sharply because of technology decreasing attention spans and negating the need to think deeply about subjects. I totally agree with that. Because of technology nearly everything is technology. Technology is everywhere, the hospitals, the schools, the churches, the stores, and more. Technology is everywhere. How can something such as technology be so detrimental when it is supposedly to be the best thing for humanity?
I was using my cellphone with a list to grocery shop. I discovered I was still missing items, so I started back writing a physical list on paper. When I write it down I seemingly remember it better. I found that to be true. Now I still clip coupons on my cellphone, because it automatically adds it on my grocery receipt as I check out. Those digital coupons are great. Even with the self-checkouts a human still needs to be available and observant to help, because computers can go-AWOL.
4. Benefits of History
Have you considered the benefits of History? History causes you to look back, it causes you to look up, it causes you to look within, and it causes you to look ahead. Enjoyingthejourney.org. Discusses this.
Note:
Even though there are those that are attempting to erase history, it is important for all people to tell their children about their history. It is important that your children tell their children and continue to do this with each generation. I remember showing my grandchildren a picture of me in middle school with two others. My other friend was showing the garter-belt holding her stockings up. My grandchildren had never seen a garter-belt and wanted to know what was that?
I never thought I would see a Black President during my lifetime, but I have. Now I am wondering when I will see a Woman President or even another Nationality as President of the United States. I know that it is coming.
5. Erasing Blackness
Have you ever heard any child say, “I never saw someone that looked like me on television.” Probably because it is true there was a time that those of different nationalities would say this. Now there are black films, Jewish films, Asian Films, and many more. According to Carolinejsumlin.com it has always been our society’s intention to erase Black history because it has always been our society’s intention to erase Blackness. She further adds that they are not stopping with book bans, but now they are taking the scraps of Black history that they barely taught and either erasing it all together or twisting the truth to rationalize enslavement and create a narrative that diminishes any fault for the generational harm caused to the Black and Indigenous communities. Are there those that are very threatened by blacks and Indigenous communities?
6. Erasing the Past to Control the Future
Can Erasing the past control the future? Zinnedproject.org., talks about how authoritarian regimes manipulate historical narratives to maintain power. He further adds that by doing this history is weaponized to advance political agendas. Are there those that are already in power so determined to erase the past in order to control the future? Are there those that want to control the future in order to increase their power? Are there those that want to control the future in order to further their own personal agenda?
7. Can History Benefit Your Future?
Can History Benefit your future? Yes it can. According to uopeople.edu history allows you to comprehend more of our world, society and other people, identity, present-day issues, and the process of change over time.
