What’s New In Technology?

During this generation technology is growing in leaps and bounds. Whether you realize it or not technology is in all facets of our lives. Maybe you are not on social media, but have you been to the doctor lately? The doctors will come in to see you possibly with their labtop in their arm. Your information is documented on the computer. So you are in the system whether you like it or not.

LATEST TECHNOLOGY

***Good News***

What are some of the newer technologies that are being used today?

1. Language Differences

According to businessinsider.com the Broad Operational Language Translation (BOLT) program helps aiding soldiers with active translation of English into a listener’s native language. In addition DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) plans to expand this so everyone could communicate without having to learn each other’s language. I have observed this technology when watching television. Sometimes the actors will speak in a foreign language and it is automatically translated into English. There have been other times when I turn xfinity television on all of the language would be in Spanish and I would need to find the button on the remote to change it to English.

2. Enhanced Optical

The Soldier Eccentric Imaging via Computational Cameras could provide soldiers with second-by-second information relating to their missions using a completely hands-free system. The businessinsider.com talks about this.

3. Implants for PTSD (Post-traumatic stress disorder)

Do you have or know of anyone who has Post-traumatic stress disorder? According to Militarytimes.com the Department of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency is funding research to make a brain implant that will help soldiers struggling with this disorder, traumatic brain injuries, anxiety, substance abuse, and more.

4. Toothbrushes

Have you heard of Bril? This is a portable toothbrush case that uses natural UV(Ultra-violet) light to kill germs on the head of your toothbrush. It is a registered class III medical device with the FDA ( Food and Drug Administration). The talktechdaily.com talks about this.

5. Solar Power

A new project looks into designing solar-power satellites, which would become the largest structures ever built in space. Energy is sent down to Earth using phased arrays, laser emitters or other wireless technologies. This is according to scitechdaily.com

6. 3D Microscope

Mediscape is a 3D microscope that can see in real-time cellular detail in living tissues to guide surgery, speed up tissue analyses, and improve treatments. They further add that now when a biopsy is done for a cancer check the tissue is cut out of the body to examine. Now with Mediscape, images can be captured in real-time to give the doctor immediate results without the long wait. How cool is that? This is talked about at scitechdaily.com.

7. MagSafe 2-in-1 Wireless Charger

Wouldn’t it be nice to not have to plug your cellphone into a charging unit? Amazon has the 3-in-1 wireless charging station. You can charge your cellphone, ipod, and your apple watch at the same time. How convenient is that. That is according to Cosmopolitan.com.

8. Pacemaker’s for the Heart

Although pacemaker’s have been around for sometime now, I had no idea about the size. I imagined a large unit or something. A few friends of mine that had pacemakers explained the unit is about the size of tiny computer memory card and is just slipped under the skin. My one friend explained that they can now last up until 10 years. I would have never known that they had one until they told me because my friends are quite active.

9. Telemed

This trend for Telemed became even more useful during the pandemic. Who would have thought that we would be able to talk to and see your doctor in real time. Various insurance companies are using Telemed for minor patient problems. Just the idea that so much of technology today is using real-time all over the world. Employers are even using real-time for interviews. Various meetings are now done in real-time.

10. Voice commands in Google Maps

Did you know that according to pcmag.com you can interact with Google maps while you are driving with voice commands. For example if you’re running low on gas, you might ask, “OK Google, find gas stations,” and it will show gas stations on the map (you can look at then you’ve come to a red light or have pulled over.) They further add that you can also pay for parking if you are short of change. Open the app as you approach a stop and you’ll see ‘Pay for Parking pop up. Select it, type in your meter number and how long you’ll be at the spot, and you can pay right from your phone.

11. Personal Defibrillator

A friend told me about a personal defibrillator her friend wore during chemo treatments because of problems with his heart stopping. She explained that when this would occur the personal defibrillator would automatically start working and send a shock to his heart. So I did some research and sure enough my.clevelandclinic.org., explains that the LifeVest it monitors the patient’s heart continuously, and if the patient goes into a life-threatening arrhythmia, the LifeVest delivers a shock treatment to restore the patient’s heart to normal rhythm. This is just amazing technology.

12. Eyes On Earth

Did you know that “Eyes on Earth” from Nasa allows you to trace the movement of water around the globe, spot volcanic eruptions and forest fires, check out the hottest and coldest locations on Earth, and according to solarsystem.nasa.gov allows you a sneak peak of how NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) is planning to study Earth in the future.

13. Autonomous Planes

According to interestingengineering.com a human presence is still extremely valuable with autonomous planes. They further add that a survey showed 70% of consumers were comfortable with flying in an autonomous plane in their lifetime. Now in the youtube video:

  Autonomous Flight- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZwWa842nj0&feature=youtu.be

they talk of having an autonomous plane with no pilot on board just the passengers. They assure that someone will monitor it with a computer on ground. They expect this to be a possibility in the near future. They also said that the aim is to make it very affordable for customers. They gave an analogy of the pilot being on ground at the computer as oppose to being in the cockpit of the actual plane.
