Good Summer Reading for Kindergartners (Omg)

1.Counting Kisses

This amazing book is colorful. There is talk about the ten different ways to kiss a baby before bedtime. Kindergarteners are not little babies, but they will enjoy reading this book. This book is only $12.45 in paperback and $4.00 in board book. Used books will start for as low as .01. I much prefer the board book, which is much sturdier.

2. Maisy Goes to the Museum: A Maisy First Experience Book

This is a good first experience book for children that will be going to the museum for the first time. It tells them what to expect. Most Kindergartners may have gone to the museum in preschool. If they have already gone, they still love reading and recalling what they saw previously at the museum. It is a great book. In addition, it builds anticipation for the kindergartners. This is another colorful book. It shows exhibits that your kindergartner will or may have already seen in the museum. It sells for $7.34 hard cover and $1.49 paper back. Used from as low as .01.

3. No Hitting!: A Lift-the-Flap Book (Karen Katz Lift-the-Flap Books)

This is a great book for showing little ones how to direct their anger. Rather than hitting each other, it gives excellent alternatives to managing their anger. I recall a pair of twins. At age four. One wanted to practice how to tie the other's shoelace. The other child did not agree. Therefore, the one twin decided to hit the other twin. I immediately explained that that was not acceptable behavior and to apologize. She did apologize. To my amazement, the other twin responded by hugging his sister. He then said, “Don’t you know I just love you.” I thought, “Out of the mouths of babes." This book will give several alternatives for the little one to think about before hitting. It sells for $2.59 hard cover and .01 for used.

4. Underwater Counting: Even Numbers

WhatI like about this book is that it is about counting even numbers. The numbers go from 0-50. It talks about all type of underwater fish. Some of them I have never heard of such as Clown Triggerfish, Trumpetfish, Squirrelfish, and many more. It sells for $8.00 in Library Binding, $4.52 in Paperback, and as low as .06 used.

5. Aunt Flossie's Hats (and Crab Cakes Later)

This is a story about two young girls that would go visit their Aunt Flossie. They loved pretending by wearing her hats and eating crab cakes. She also had stories to tell her nieces about the hats. This book is about a real person named Sarah Florence James. The back of the book has actual pictures of Flossie as a young girl and other family members. This book is very touching. The girls dressing up in the hats reminded me of my children how they used to like to play dress up with clothes, heels, and makeup. That was a sight to see. This book sells for $6.40 hardcover, $2.45 Paperback, Audio Cassette $29.99, Unknown Binding $16.00 and Used starting at $5.21.

Kindergartners will just love these books. I believe I loved them just as much as they did. What great books do you have to share for Kindergarteners?
