The eyes are very important to the body. Do you wear eyeglasses or contact lenses? Eye solutions have evolved. There are those that may wear a different colored contact on a daily basis.

                                          Eye Health

                                     ***Good News***

Some of the eye problems could include Thyroid Eye Disease. Exactly what is Thyroid Eye Disease?

1. What is the thyroid?

According to clevelandclinic.org., the thyroid gland is a small organ located in the front of the neck, wrapped around the windpipe (trachea). They further add that the thyroid controls your metabolism with a few specific hormones which tell the body’s cells how much energy to use.

2. Thyroid Eye Disease

Thyroid Eye Disease is treatable. If you have been diagnosed with thyroid eye Disease and you are experiencing itchy, dry, puffy, or irritated eyes and your symptoms are mild there are several treatment options according to webmd.com. They further add that you may manage the over-counter eye drops (artificial tears), use lubricating gels, cool compresses, keeping your head elevated during sleep, or Selenium supplements. Be sure to check with your eye doctor before doing this though.

Note:

There are various ways to keep your eyes health. Let’s explore some of them below:

A. Eat Well

Did you know that to receives nutrients like omega-3-fatty acids, lutein, zinc, and vitamins C and E you need to eat green leafy vegetables, salmon, tuna, oily fish, eggs, nuts, beans, and oranges? That is according to webmd.com. They further suggest that you quit smoking, wear sunglasses, use safety eyewear, and look away from the computer screen because it can cause eye strain. I learned the hard way regarding sunglasses. I discovered after having eye surgery my eyes are very sensitive to light. So I wear sunglasses most of the time when I am out. Sometimes the sun may not be directly out, but the light especially in the winter time can be quite bright.

B. Know Your Risk Factors

According to medlineplus.gov. You are at a higher risk of developing age-related eye diseases as you get older and knowing the risk factors may help you to lower your risk by changing some of your behaviors.

C. Rest Your Eyes

I have learned that it is so important to give your eyes a rest. You must remember that you are not a machine, but then even machines have their down time. After my surgery it was about 3 weeks before I could type on the computer. I would get headaches when I attempted. So as a result I purchased an eye screen from Amazon for my computer screen. The eye screen reduces the glare from the computer. I gradually attempted to get on the computer 5 minutes a day. I gradually increased the amount of time until eventually I was able to stay on the computer longer without any headaches. I did not know how long it would take me to heal, but it seemed like an eternity. I know God gives me creativeness in my spirit so I thought if I were not able to ever get back on the computer and write what were my alternatives. Although I love writing that is not the only thing that I can do.

D. Eye Exercises

Medicalnewstoday.com talks about the 20-20-20 rules which states a person needs to look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes while working on a computer. They further add that eye movements can help with digital eye strain by closing the eyes, slowly move the eyes upward, then downward, repeat three times, slowly move the eyes to the left, then to the right, repeat three times.

E. Blinking

You probably never think about the importance of blinking. Computer users and television watchers ten to blink less according to us.discovercl.com. They also added that blinking keeps your eyes fresh and discharges previous information to make them ready for new information, which reduces eye strain.

F. Bluelight Filter- Eye Care

Did you know that there are eye care apps that are available to you? According to hoffoptometry.com the Bluelight filter reduces eye strain by reducing the amount of blue light your eyes receive from your android devices. They further state you can choose from 5 different filter colors, and adjust each filter’s strength. How amazing is this. Technology is steadily evolving.

G. Eye Games

There are games to help your eyes. According to Blog.solsticebenefits.com the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that 6.8% of children under eighteen have diagnosed eye and vision conditions. They also suggests the following games to help your child’s vision; What Did I Add Drawing?, Stare!, Visual Brainstormers, Blink, and Set. My favorite of these is stare. The entire family can play this game. Players have 30 seconds to stare at an image on a card. When the time is up, an opponent will flip over the card and ask the player a series of questions about the image to see how much they can recall. Example, questions might be what color were the balloons? Or How many people were sitting at the table?

H. Puffy eyes

Do you suffer with puffy eyes? Did you know cucumber juice contains powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as vitamin C. Which can soothe tired skin and eyes? That is what healthline.com states. They suggest cutting two cucumber slices about a half-inch thick, lie down, and apply a slice to each eyelid for 15 minutes to help refresh your eyes and skin. I would say that is a fairly inexpensive idea to try. Cucumbers are relatively inexpensive and they are also good to eat.

Eye health is so important. Some great information here. Having regularly eye appointments is important even if you don't have any issues, just in case.

I got two sets of glasses in the past year, thanks mainly to intense computer use:( One of them had the screen you mention for computer use, and it helps. I had a few good weeks I could not get close to any technology. Love the research and advice!
