Why is it important to stay positive. Have you given much thought to whether you are mostly positive or mostly negative most of the time? Do you know of negative people? Do you know of people that seemingly never have anything good to say about anyone?
Positive Thoughts
It is important to stay positive because negativity can affect you in ways that can be detrimental to your health.
***Good News***
1. Words are Important
While positive thoughts are good positive words are better. It is good to think positive thoughts, but when you speak them aloud and form them into words that you or others may hear it can have a profound effect for the better. How is your attitude? Have you ever heard someone say, “That bad attitude makes her look so ugly?” A good attitude can be very helpful to you regardless to how smart or intelligent that you think you are.
2. Encourage Yourself
It is good when others says positive and encouraging things to you, but it is even better when you can encourage yourself. What you think in your minds will eventually become what you believe. This is nothing new because in Proverbs 23:7 it states For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. So changing your way of thinking is quite important and beneficial to you. Sometimes you cannot rely on others to be positive towards you so being positive must start with yourself.
3. Positive Thinking
Did you know that according to the Mayo Clinic positive thinking can increase life span, lower rates of depression, can give better cardiovascular health and reduced risk of death from cardiovascular disease and much more. They further add that you can change by identifying areas to change and checking yourself during the day. I know that to be true. I do not know exactly when in my life I decided to start thinking more positive, but I do remember it was so difficult for me. It felt like doing something foreign. It was not easy, but the more and more that I did it, it eventually became easier. I eventually realized there is more than one way to look at a situation.
4. Children
I have observed sometimes that children are so innocent they will sometimes laugh about anything. They can find humor in so many things. Children are light-hearted and do not carry the load of heaviness and being serious all the time. If you observe this in children it is very difficult to not have a positive attitude.
5. Failure
No one wants or like to fail, but I discovered failure can be taken as a learning lesson. Staying positive and knowing that this is not the end can help you learn what not to do again. I discovered there are those that failed their, real estate state test, nursing state test or even failed the bar exam only to discover they were able to retake the test and pass it eventually. That is perseverance and the fact is that they were committed to continue and not give up.
6. Encouragement
Encouragement can lend to being positive. I recall a friend that wanted to go to school to get her nursing degree. Her teacher failed her in one of her classes. I shared that all teachers are not the same. When in school you hear about the so call “good teachers” and so called “bad teachers.” I encouraged her to ask around about teachers and retake the class with another teacher. Every teacher is not for every student and may not reach all students. She did retake it with another teacher and did quite well. She was very happy about this.
7. Negative vs Positive
According to lifehack.org., positive people have an attitude of gratitude, whereas negative people struggle to see the silver-lining in difficult situations. I believe that is where I was at some point in my life; it was a struggle to even find the positive. I never wanted to incur a problem. But how many of us know that there will be problems in our life and it is up to you how you deal with that problem? How will you view the problem? Will you view it as a learning lesson or view it as the end of the world?
8. Better Social Life
When given a choice would you prefer to be around a positive or a negative person? According to the stillnessproject.com it is natural to want to be around people that are cheerful, upbeat, and optimistic. I agree. Do you know of people that are like that? Do you know of people you love being around?
9. Playful
Have you noticed how playful children are? Have you ever just been playful with your children? I recall when my children were younger we would play games together like “Little Sally Walker” or even doing the bunny hop because there was a lot of dancing in my household. You seldom see kids playing jacks now because there are so many computer games available, but I would physically sit on the floor and play jacks with my children. How about tickling your children? That will definitely get a big laugh. The positive aspect of this is that it is a win/win situation for both the parent and the child.
10. Self-talk
What are you telling yourself? Unfortunately I have heard people call themselves stupid. What about building yourself up with affirmations. Say good things about yourself. You can say true things that are good and positive. In fact, if you keep saying it you will eventually believe it. According to franksonenbergonline.com you can be positive to yourself by seeing the glass as half full rather than half empty. He further adds to anticipate the best outcome. I recall the experiment done in one of my classes. The class was asked to look at a glass that was not completely full. Some saw the glass as half full and others saw it as half empty.
Finally remember the benefits of being positive. Try it today. You might eventually like it.

DeleteGood tips for being positive. I especially like number 1 words. Not only are the words important but how they are said. Even I love you isn’t good if it’s said wrong.
ReplyDeleteThanks Military Traveler. I agree with you about how words are said.
