Have you stopped to think that there have been several historical events that have occurred over the past several years and that you have been a part of that?

1. Ukraine
The war in Ukraine. Although you are not physically there in Ukraine. You may feel the effects of it. Possibly you have relatives that are in Ukraine now trying to get out to safety. Oil prices in America are higher. I have seen gas at the pump as much as $4.25 and higher in some places in Michigan. According to nytimes.com Russia is stepping up increasingly indiscriminate assaults on civilian targets and infrastructure. They further add that 202 schools, 34 hospitals and more than 1, 500 residential buildings have been destroyed since the war began, and nearly 1,000 towns and villages don’ t have electricity, water and heat. I can not imagine, because I remember when Michigan had an ice storm and many were without heat or electricity for at least 9-14 day during zero degree weather. To me that was horrible so I know it cannot begin to compare to what the Ukrainians are going through. Many are leaving their country going to Poland with only the clothes on their backs because their homes have been destroyed.
2. COVID-19
I remember the first victim in Flint to die from the Pandemic was quite personal for me. Elder Freddie Brown and then shortly there after his only son Freddie L. Brown Jr. age 20. His wife Sandy was my co-worker. This was a devastating time for that family and for Flint. Then there was Kevelin Jones whom I attended school previously with. When these death occurred families were not allowed to see the patients because the virus was so deadly and there was very little known at the time about the transmission of the virus. Thank goodness for the internet the funerals were shown live on Facebook with very few family members in attendance. This was something that was unheard of. As I talked with my grandchildren. I explained to them living through this Pandemic of COVID-19 is a miracle that they will be able to share with their children. It has been said that this is one of the worse Pandemics in History because you could have COVID-19 and not have symptoms, but could easily pass it on to someone else unknowingly. During this long Pandemic you have to change your way of living. Where it was common to hug family members and friends in the past was now restricted during COVID-19 for fear of passing it on to someone.
Many became creative and thank God for the internet people were still able to socialize from a distance. Churches were able to listen to their pastor’s online. People were skyping and because of social distancing spending more time at home with family members. You were adaptable. Many survived the loss of family members and friends from COVID-19. There were those that did not take it seriously and suggested it was a hoax until they caught the covid-19 and then felt the reality of this horrible invisible infectious disease. It was almost a year before a vaccine became able so the next best thing was to disinfect things, wash your hands often, distancing, and wearing a mask.
This was a time when the nurses and doctors worked very long hours on the front of this Pandemic to keep your family safe in the hospital. You will never forget this historical event in your life.
3. Long-term Effects of COVID-19
Unfortunately for some there are still long-term effects after COVID-19 according to nhs.uk and they may include extreme tiredness (fatigue), shortness of breath, chest pains, brain fog, difficulty sleeping, heart palpitations, dizziness, pins and needles, joint pain, depression and anxiety, tinnitus, earaches, feeling sick, diarrhea, stomach aches, loss of appetite, high temperatures, cough, headaches, sore throat, changes to sense of smell of taste, and rashes. I also know of friends that have experienced some of these symptoms after COVID-19.
4. Flint Poisoned-2014
Flint residents will never forget how their water was poisoned with lead. There were those that died from this and sadly babies and pregnant mother’s were affected severely. My granddaughter lives in the south and she called me to talk about it, because she was doing a report about it in her class. Besides the fact Flint was dealing with poisoned water, Flint was dealing with poor infrastructure to the water lines. This has been a process. Even though filters have been placed on faucets and water lines replaced, and testing supposedly does not show high levels of lead, because of the distrust many including myself have used bottled water since 2014. Many would sit in their cars for hours to pick up free bottled water at established pickup points. To me it felt like living in a third world county. Instead of walking to get free water I sat in my car for hours at a time. Yes the water lines were long too.
As I listened to a broadcast on the radio, Dr. Mona, the doctor that exposed the lead poisoning in Flint was asked what states she would drink water from a faucet. Her reply was that the Federal guidelines were too low for detecting lead in the water so there is no state in the United States that she would drink water from their faucets. So bottled water is quite popular since the lead poisoning in Flint.
5. George Floyd – 2020
George Floyd- 2020 is someone that the young and old will remember, as it was broadcast live on television the inhumane treatment that he received. It brought tears to many eyes. As I watched live in real-time a police pinning George Floyd with his knee on George Floyd’s neck for almost 10 minutes, George Floyd had said, “I can’t breath.” This was a hardening event. Children as well as adults saw this. According to history.com George Floyd had used a counterfeit $20 bill in a transaction so the police was called resulting in the officer pinning George Floyd to the ground even though George Floyd was cooperating and not resisting arrest. The sad thing about this is that anyone you or me could receive a counterfeit bill unknowingly in today’s world and pass it on to someone else unintentionally. I watched the trial for this on television some of the witnesses broke out in tears and I was even crying, because it could have been my son that died. Just think it could have been your son. When you think about it there are probably more events that have occurred that you will remember in history. Would you share them today?

Health Trivia- How Much Do You Know
There is a lot going on these days but we have to stay close to Jesus and the things of this world will grow dim. Stay wise as serpents and innocent as doves. Great perspective.
