Bloggers Meet and Greet Christmas Party 2017

Do you really know the meaning of Christmas? Are we celebrating the season for the right reasons? Did you know according to the Jewish Calendar Jesus Christ was not born on December 25th?

History of Christmas

I will discuss the History of Christmas at this Blogger's Meet and Greet Blog Party

1. Jesus Christ

For Today's Meet and greet we will talk about Jesus Christ and Christmas. Now according to the Jewish Calendar, Jesus Christ was born on October 4, BC 4. So where does December 25, 2017 Christmas originate?

Oliver Cromwell and Puritan forces took over England in 1645, they vowed to cancel Christmas. From 1659 to 1681 Christmas was outlawed in Boston and anyone exhibiting Christmas spirit was fined 5 shillings. Christmas was declared a federal holiday June 26,1870. Although it has been referred to as a pagan holiday people started embracing Christmas in the 19 century.

Today, Christmas is one of the biggest money makers for retailers and other organizations.

2. Santa Claus

Do you know when Santa Claus originated? According to History.com the legend of Santa Clause dates back to a monk named St. Nicholas; around 280 A.D. in Patara. The Anniversary of his death December 6 was traditionally considered a lucky day to make large purchases or to get married. Stores began to advertise Christmas shopping in 1820. Christmas became a legal holiday in 1870 which was declared by President Ulysses S. Grant.

I recall my children coming to me and telling me they needed to talk to me. They said, “ Momma there is no Santa Claus.” I replied, “How do you know?” Their answer was, “That Santa Claus you took us to see had a black beard showing up under the white beard.” (Out of the mouths of babes),
