Do you buy organic? Do you feel organic is better? What is so special about eating organic? Is eating organic expensive?
Did You Know?
1. Organic Farming
Exactly what is organic farming? According to Mayoclinic.org., organic farming is designed to meet the following goals, improve soil and water quality, cut pollution, provide safe, healthy place for farm animals to live, plant rotation to keep soil quality and to stop cycles of pests or disease, and provide healthy living conditions and provide farm animals to access to the outdoors.
2. Natural Versus Organic
Does the label really matter? Rodaleinstitute.org., mentions this. They emphasized that it does make a difference; when walking through the grocery store, without a clear-cut definition of “natural” when it comes to food, it is easy to assume that natural and organic food are more-or-less the same. They further add that “natural” can be heavily influenced by human activities, where as, buying organic guarantees that the food you are eating contains no toxic pesticides or chemicals, no synthetic growth hormones or antibiotics, no GMO's (genetically Modified Organisms), no artificial additives or preservatives, and is grown/raised using organic farming methods.
3. Foods to Buy Organic
What foods do you buy organically? Several foods that you can buy organically include strawberries, nectarines, peaches, celery, grapes, cherries, and tomatoes. Allrecipes.com talks about this.
4. Is organic really healthier?
According to health.ucdavis.edu organic foods are not healthier, per se, in terms of nutrients. You are still getting the same benefits in conventionally grown foods as you are in organic foods. They further add that if you want to get the most bang for your buck on produce, frozen veggies can be cheaper than fresh, and they are very similar in quality.
I guess I am not convinced to buy organically. I do, however, love frozen vegetables. Possibly it is a matter of preference and I am sure there are those that swear by buying organically.
5. The Cost to Eat Organically
Do you know the cost to eat organically? Fool.com suggests that organic produce can cost almost 40% more. They further add that there is not clear evidence that organic foods are healthier for people. They further add that price comparisons can be powerful and that it is best to shop around for the best prices.
6. What You Need to Know About Organic Foods
You need to know that organic foods cannot have been altered by scientist, organic farming practices must protect the land to make sure it is useful for a long time, organic meat and animal products must come from livestock raised in a natural habitat. This is according to familiarization. They further add that organic farming has two main goals. The first is to reduce the negative impact on the environment. The second is to increase sustainability.
7. My Favorite
Although they are not organic, I have found that I do like Tyson meat products because they state right on their package no antibiotics. Their Cornish hens have no antibiotics in them. Just think about how many of the products you buy that have antibiotics in them. Just look at how large some of the chicken wings and thighs are that you buy. You may say that it is a large chicken, but why is it so large?
8. Downside to buying Organically
There is a downside to buying organically. Organic is not accessible for many people, especially if you are on a budge or your grocer doesn’t carry it. This is according to telecommuting. They further added that the EPA’s ranking method "lacks scientific credibility."
9. Unintended Harm
Can organic farming cause unintended harm? A new study done according to phys.org suggest that expanding organic cropland can lead to increased pesticide use in surrounding non-organic fields, offsetting some environmental benefits. They further added that spatially clustering organic fields and spatially separating organic and conventional fields could reduce the environmental footprint of both organic and conventional cropland.
10. Is Frozen Fruit Better For You?
Is Frozen Fruit Better for You? I like frozen vegetables. Do you like frozen vegetables and frozen fruit? Cnn.com talks about research that has revealed that frozen fruits and vegetables can have just as many vitamins and sometimes more-as compared to fresh. They further add that frozen produce is an especially worthwhile choice, if you are not going to eat your fruits and veggies within a day or two; and that they are picked at their peak of their ripeness. This is very reassuring to know. I was not aware of that. Although I love fresh vegetables I also love frozen corn and mixed vegetables. I have observed also during the Winter some fresh fruits and vegetables are not as easy to obtain as they are during the summer so frozen is definitely a very good alternative.
11. How Long Frozen Fruits and Vegetables Last?
Do you know how long frozen fruits and vegetables last? According to livestrong.com for best quality, use frozen produce within 8 to 12 months of freezing, per the National Center for Home Food Preservation. They further give suggestions for freezing vegetables at home. I tried at one time freezing vegetable unsuccessfully. I recall having a friend that could freeze nearly every kind of vegetable she was just that good. She also canned quite a lot of vegetables. I know that there are those that do that now.
12. Organic Coffee
I am not a coffee drinker, but do you drink Organic Coffee?
However, I am still not convince to buy organically. What about you? Do you buy organically? Coasttocoastcoffee.ca talks about the benefits of drinking organic coffee; They state that it is full of nutrients and provides consumers with more nutrients than non-organic options. They further add that organic coffee is linked to lower levels of Depression, boosts energy levels, supports heart health, helps burn fat, and is better for your digestive system.
I have started drinking Green tea with lemon which is suppose to have a lot of immune boosting properties. I love the green tea. I also drink black tea which is 100% natural. Also, the green tea comes organically as well.
13. Organic Tea
Although I am not a coffee drinker I love to drink tea with lemon. This is mentioned at Golden Tipstea.com. They suggest that compared to regular tea, organic tea contains more antioxidants, which are excellent for your health. Antioxidants boost your immune system, reduce the risk of hear disease, prevent cancer, and aid in fighting other diseases. They further add that organic tea gives your skin a natural glow. After hearing this I may have to give organic tea a try. Who knows that may be another story for me to write about. Organic tea sounds very promising.

I tend to buy a lot of frozen vegetables and fruit already, so this was good information to know. I haven't been convinced to go organic, either. Frozen really is a great option! Thank you for sharing this post with us at the Will Blog for Comments #42 linkup. We hope to see you next time with more posts to share, old or new.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting post. I don't buy organic food because of the price, plus I'm not sure I can really trust that it is truly organic. However, I am an avid gardener and I do grow most of my own food and freeze and can it. I pick it the same day I process it. I garden organically. visiting from Calling Fellow Bloggers
