Benefits of a Good Salad

Do you know the benefits of a good salad? Do you eat salad? What is the best salad that you have ever eaten?

Did You Know?

1. Salad Everyday

Do you eat a salad everyday? I cannot imagine eating a salad a day even though I really like salad. I also am aware of the many different types of salads that are available today. I eat salads often, but not everyday. Medicinenet.com gives several reasons why eating a salad every day is healthy. They are as follows:

1. Salads contain many vital nutrients

2. Salads can help with weight loss

3. Salads are often high in fiber

4. Salads contain good fats

2. Nutrients

Do you include important nutrients in your salad?  Did you know that by including a protein in your salads that will help make them a filling meal? This is according to medlineplus.gov. They further suggest that grilled chicken breast, beans, canned salmon, or hard-boiled eggs are good examples of this.

3. Fiber and More

Do you eat more salads? Eating more salads can prevent blood sugar spikes, improve digestion, and reduce bloating, Salads are rich in fiber, salads can help you maintain a healthy weight, salads can improve heart health, and salads  are a perfect base for adding in healthy fats. This is according to dedicated.care/articles

4. Dark Leafy Greens

Do you eat greens? I love greens. I usually combine mustard and turnip greens together. I also like good collard greens as well. Are you aware that those that eat greens have fewer strokes and heart attacks than those who reported consuming less. This was also noted at dedicated.care/articles.

5. Salad For Weight Loss

Are you trying to loose weight? Did you know that salads can help with weight loss? Although I love a good salad I am not looking to loose weight, but for those of you that are salads that contain fresh green leafy vegetables such as palak or spinach, cabbage and so on are especially great for burning down the fat that is stored around the belly area. Fitterfly.com talks about this. They further add that salads loaded with fibers can definitely target your belly fat and help it move away faster. So for those that are trying to loose weight remember to be persistent and do not give up.

6. Salad Before or After a Meal

I have observed that in most restaurants salads are served before the meal. However, in Italy salad is served after the meal because it cleanses the palate and refreshes your tasted buds. This is mentioned at italiangardensmtx.com. I have also observed that some restaurants will serve salads in the morning, whereas some fast foods that serve salad will serve only after 10 or 11 am. However, regardless, I believe making your own salad is an excellent idea. How many of you make your own salad? The good thing about this is that you can improvise and make sure you have the ingredients in your salad that you desire.

I love a good salad. I have discovered that everyone does not know how to make a good salad. Sometimes salads may not even look appealing. When you can see and appealing looking salad it makes you want to eat it. There is a big difference.

7. Statistics

Vegetable consumption in the United States is less than 1 cup per day, far lower than the recommended amount-3cups and researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles discovered the frequency of the students’ fruit and vegetable consumption rose 40%, from 2.97 to 4.09 times daily when the school salad bar program was introduced. They further suggest that you encourage your children to choose lunch from their school salad bar, if one is available.

I like that most restaurants have some type of salad bar available. I recall a group that I am a part of. We were going out to eat and one lady indicated she did not eat out and did not eat meat. I explained to her that they have a great salad bar and a large variety of ingredients to choose from. She did decide to go and stated that she enjoyed her salad. So when eating out if there is a question regarding food that is on the menu most of the time salad is a safe choice and wise choice as well.

8. Dark Under eye circles

Do you suffer with dark under eye circles? Do you suffer with wrinkling and sagging of skin? Well saladcaffe.com talks about nutrients in salad help synthesize collagen, provide natural sun protective effects, protect against wrinkling and sagging of skin, can improve dark under eye circles, and make skin smoother. That is reassuring to know, because I have seen others with dark under eye circles and wrinkles as well.

9. History of Salad Dressings

Do you know the history of salad dressings? Did you know that the Babylonians used oil and vinegar for dressing greens nearly 2,000 years ago, salads were great favorites in the courts of European Monarchs, in 1986 Joe Marietta opened a restaurant in Columbus, Ohio and served his customers a variety of dressings, in 1912 Richard Hellman began to sell his blue ribbon mayonnaise in wooden containers, and in 1925 the Kraft Cheese Company entered the salad production which eventually led to Kraft’s entry into the pour able dressing business with French Dressing.

I personally love the Marzetti dressings for my sphaghetti salad because of the oil base in the dressing. It is unique and quite different.

It is never too late to start eating salad if you have not been doing so. You might find that you like it.

  1. I'd say I eat a salad at minimum once a day sometimes twice. but I try to make sure every meal has some sort of fruit or veggie (or both) so I can "eat a rainbow" every day.

  3. I love salads, but I also appreciate that the types of salad can vary widely so you don't get sick of the same thing. I have a spinach pecan blue cheese salad recipe that goes well with vinaigrette, but I also love tomatoes and cucumbers in my more traditional salads. Thanks for sharing this post with us at the Will Blog for Comments #45 linkup. Hope you'll share more posts with us at #46 which starts Monday.
