***Good News***
While going about your daily routine take a look at how many times you see numbers and or use numbers yourselves. Numbers are on calendars, house addresses, on computers, in Bible scriptures, in classrooms, in the hospital, in car sales, car repairs and much more.
History of Numbers:
Desert.com talks about numbers stating that numbers and counting began about 4,000 BC in Sumeria; their method of counting began as a series of tokens with each man being given a token for a chicken, thus subtraction and the invention of arithmetic was invented. They further added that in Egypt around 3,000 BC, the number one became used as a unit of measurement to measure length. I am sure this was especially needed to build pyramids and temples.
1. What is a number?
According to Wikipedia.org. A number is a mathematical object used to count, measure, and label. Have you thought about how many times in a day that you use numbers? For instance if you stop at Starbucks to get that morning cup of coffee you use numbers to know how much you are going to pay for that coffee. What about at a restaurant or Fast food establishment; money is needed to pay your bill.
2. Television Show
I have watched a television show called Numb3rs. It is quite interesting too. A mathematician working for the Federal Bureaus of Investigations uses equations to help solve various crimes.
You may not want a job that requires a lot of math, but math will be used throughout your life and numbers will be necessary in one form or another when working.
3. Spreadsheets
Have you ever used a spreadsheet? Many are probably using them now. Spreadsheets are computerized data in rows and columns that can be used for various purposes. They can be used for storing data and you have a visualization of the data as well. Again, you will be using numbers. It is hard to escape not using numbers. According to hubspot.com there are several advantages of using a spreadsheet for business such as they are free, they require minimal training, they are easy to manipulate and analyze data, and you can have access to countless spreadsheet templates.
4. Speed of Light
According to codinghero.ai the speed of light denoted by c is 186,282 miles per second. Again numbers are used. They further add that the expansion of the universe is understood to exceed the speed of light beyond a certain boundary.
5. Doctors Office
Have you thought about how many times you use numbers in the doctor’s office? Think about it. You may get weighed. The doctor listen’s to your heart beat? You may be given a prescription. There is no escaping the use of numbers.
6. Car Insurance Policies
When you purchase car insurance the number of vehicles and the number of drivers are needed. Can you think of how many other numerous numbers are need for this policy?
7. Statistical Surveys
Did you know that when you hear a report regarding statistical data it is important to know what source it is coming from, how many people were used in the study, and how long the study was done. All of this is very important because people can manipulate numbers so that the studies will always come out in the favor that they want it to. So numbers are very important.
8. Scammers
Have you observed that scammers will use fake amounts that you have won or can win if you only do as they instruct? Again numbers. There is something about hearing you have won or can win “XXX” amount of money. Again numbers are in play. There are so many scams being created daily. There was the one scam where someone deposits a large amount of money into your checking or even mailed you a large amount of money wanting you to deposit it into your account and then withdrawing a portion for fees, etc. You probably say you would not fall for something of that nature, but there are those especially elderly people that have fallen for this. It is sad, but it happens.
9. Numbers in the Bible
When reading and meditating you will observer that numbers are used throughout the Bible. In fact certain words are repeated numerous times. Did you know that “Do not be afraid” is in the Bible 365 times? This is according to believersportal.com A few of the scriptures that have “do not be afraid” are as follows:
Genesis 35:17 And as she was having great difficulty in childbirth, the midwife said to her, “don’t despair, for you have another son.”
Genesis 50:21 So then, don’t be afraid. I will provide for you and your children.”
Exodus 14:13 Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today.
10. What is the Shortest Verse in the Bible?
Have you ever given thought that there is a short verse in the Bible? Yes you may have heard it, but not given it a lot of thought. John 11:35 “Jesus wept.”
11. Cellphones
Do you still have a landline phone? Some have opted to have just cellphones, which is great if you always have power to back up the batteries. Whether you have landline or both you are still using numbers. Cellphones at one time were free and/or were cheap, but now have become quite expensive. How many cellphone contacts do you have in your cellphone? Have you given that any thought? With the use of technology and various apps there is no need to punch certain numbers on the keypad, but rather just click on a name and the cellphone dials the number automatically for you. How convenient is that? Do we sometimes take that for granted. Now with “Siri” the voice activation you can just talk into your cellphone and even though you do not visually see the numbers, you can be reassured the “Siri” is dialing the numbers for you. Another convenience, but you are using numbers still.
How many other ways do we use number?
