Mind, Body, and Spirit

Do you ever think about how the mind, body, and spirit are connected to each other? Just like you need others; the mind, body and spirit need each other.

Have you ever thought about when you feel happy, sad, or other emotions, how they are connected to your body and your spirit? Have you ever heard anyone say be careful what you allow into your spirit? Did you know that what you watch on television or hear on the radio/internet can affect your spirit? I have often said that I love watching comedy because it makes me laugh. Proverbs 17:22 A merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broke spirit dries the bones. Have you ever felt bad, but a friend cheered you up with laughter. My older sister is so funny. She always makes me laugh.

Just to See You Smile...

***Good News***

1. Connection

According to soulviasole.com the body has three distinct networks that connect to each other; the head, the gut, and the heart, often called the three brains. They further give examples of the emotion of stress being processed through the body’s adrenal system, anxiety making someone’s hair stand up on end, and they stress that everything is connected. Guard your heart. Proverbs 4:23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Someone has said,  "There are times you may say you did not mean to say that, but in reality you did, because you were stating your true feelings." That is why words are so important. The power of the tongue can uplift you or it can kill you. Proverbs 18:21. Death and life are in the power of the tongue and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

2. God’s Design

You are a great design by God. Psalm139:14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works;

Our body comprises our organs, cells, nervous system and brain. Faithandhealthconnection.org., further adds that our mind, will, and emotions are connected to the body through our endocrine, nervous, and immune systems.

3. Balance

How do you balance, mind, body and spirit? Are there times that you may do too much or too little in either area? Remember too much of anything is not good.   Several body wellness strategies might include breathing techniques, drinking water, eating, moving, resting, and getting organized. These are mentioned at discoverwisconsin.com. I have stressed in previous articles deep-breathing on a daily basis is so beneficial because it calms and relaxes the body so that throughout the hustle and bustle of the day you are not kept in a “fight or flight” emotion. I also have previously mentioned in my article

Exercise Without Going to the Gym

that I was so happy when Michelle Obama introduced in the schools: Lets Move.” The students benefited from this. Exercise is free. The body was made to move not to sit and be stagnant. It amazes me when I see seniors dancing, skating, and running marathons. That lets me know you are never too old to keep moving. I discovered that I love to walk. After walking I just really feel energized with all this energy. I purposely park farther away in the parking lot for walking purposes.

4. Physical Body

1 Corinthians 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. Those that are believers believe that even though the physical body may die the spirit lives on. Have you really listened to the minister at a funeral say, “This person has passed on from life to life.” A person’s belief does affect their body. Unfortunately our physical bodies were not made to live forever. Just like cars and other products are not made to last forever. You may be constantly attempting to take care of your body, mind, and spirit the best that you can. Science is discovering on a daily basis new things to help you improve. Science is also discovering things that the Bible has always said. For example science emphasizes the importance of keeping a positive mind and they have proven what you say does become a reality. The Bible has always stated that same thing. For example Romans 4:17 (as it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations) in the presence of Him whom he believed—God who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did.

That is why I find memorizing scripture so important. Just as science has stated you can make a list of positive phrases or words. I can quote memorized scripture that is just as uplifting for me such as: Philippians 4:19 And my god will supply all my needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. When scripture is memorized it will come naturally and there is no need to search the scripture for it at that time.

All of this is important to the physical body because there may be times when you feel sad, angry, or other emotions. Words can uplift you and definitely change that feeling of sadness or possibly other negative emotions that you might be feeling. I recall someone saying, “When a negative thought comes into your mind replace it with a positive thought. This is sort of like looking at a half-filled glass. Some will look at it as half empty while others will look at it as half full. Will you look at the glass from a negative view or a positive view?  When a problem arises will you look at it negatively and complain or will you look at it positively and attempt to find a solution?

Always remember mind, body, and spirit work together.

  1. These are wonderful thoughts. We don't often think about how connected we are to everything, and within ourselves, including our spirits. I need to focus more on my overall well-being now and again, so this is a great reminder. Thanks for sharing this post at the Will Blog for Comments #26 linkup. Hope to see you there next week, too.
