Do You Even Know How to Relax? (10 Tips for You)

Do You Even Know How to Relax? In a busy microwave world, taking time to relax is essential for your mind, body, and spirit.

Think About this:

***Purpose***

Are you one that is always doing?   Are you one that always must be doing something?   Do you try to use your body like a (lean green machine)?

     1. The Importance of Relaxation

Did you know that relaxation can help lower blood pressure, reduce anxiety symptoms, help with pain before and after surgery, help with pain of headaches, help with lower back pain, improve sleep quality, and help with labor and childbirth pain relief.  This is talked about at psychcentral.com.  I can confirm that relaxation is important during childbirth, as the pain is unlike any other.   I recall during one of my deliveries breathing and trying to relax and asking for my epidural.  This baby I was told was coming to fast that I could not have the epidural.  She was actually born just twenty minutes after I got to the hospital.   This same child has done everything fast most of her life.

    2.  The To-Do List

Do you use a to-do-list?  Are you able to complete your list within the day or do you constantly add to your list?   I sometimes use a list, but I discovered adding to it throughout the day does not help.  I asked myself, is everything on my list something that just must be done today or can it wait?   I then decided to prioritize and realize the old saying that “Rome was not built in a day.”

    3.   A Good Night’s Sleep

Achieving sufficient quality sleep is essential for effective relaxation and overall well-being.  Have you ever kept going while exhausted?   Did you find that after a restful night's sleep, you felt refreshed the next day?

    4.  A Warm Shower

Have you observed how you felt after taking a nice warm shower?  According to scienceinsights.org., when warm water hits your skin, it activates your parasympathetic nervous system.  The result is a lower heart rate and relaxed muscles.  They also added that warm water causes blood vessels near the skin’s surface to dilate, improving circulation and helping muscles release built-up tension.

   5.  Do You Like Gardening?

Have you discovered that there are many gardening activities worth exploring, which can show you just how calming gardening can be?    Some of the activities might include herbal tea creation, butterfly sanctuary design, rainwater harvesting, Zen rake gardening, composting, succulent arrangements, seed saving, vegetable patch planning, flower pressing, sensory pathway construction, terrarium creation, edible flower cultivation, and no-dig gardening.

I like herbal tea gardening because I like herbal teas.  I also have a relative that has a personal garden right on the enclosed patio so there is no danger of animals eating the vegetables. I also believe sensory pathway gardening is an excellent idea because all the aromas engage in the senses.  I could see this being relaxing to children as well as adults, especially if you have a child that is hyper. These activities are talked about at plantisima.com.

  6.  Perhaps You Prefer New Technology Relaxation

Some of the new technology relaxation techniques include VR (virtual reality)  Meditation Headset, Smart tea brewer, Intelligent sound bath speaker, guided journaling tablet, smart bath temperature controller, aroma steam pod, and weight heated blanket.  These are all mentioned at techinfluencer.com.

I can attest to the weight heated blanket.  I have one and I love it.  I can just turn it on low because it heats up fast.  As soon as I am under it I can feel all my muscles relaxing.   It is also designed to allow a second adjustment specifically for your spouse. This allows everyone to customize the settings according to their individual preferences.   Although my husband very seldom uses it because he is not cold at night like I am.  I didn't want this blanket at first.   I wanted a smaller one, but this is all that was available at the time, so I did not feel like shopping around.  Now I am so glad that I got it.  I do not believe this was an accident, but I was at the right place at the right time.  God is good.

 7.  Relaxing with Adult Coloring Books

Can you relax using adult coloring books?  According to health.lclevelandclinic.org, adult coloring books can be a relaxing activity. They cited advantages include redirecting attention from oneself, promoting mental relaxation, and facilitating enjoyment in low-pressure environments.   They noted that some people enjoy it while others do not, as adults tend to choose childhood favorites for recreation Unfortunately, I do not love adult coloring books, I do, however, enjoy sketching and drawing.

 8.  Fishing

Can fishing be relaxing?  It most certainly can be relaxing.   Besides the fact that I love to fish, I found it very refreshing.  Sitting on the water in the boat looking at the surrounding trees and the smell of fresh air is awesome.  Also not hearing the traffic of cars and horns blowing is a plus.

 9.  Kayaking

Can kayaking be relaxing?  Kayaking is an activity that can provide a calming and relaxing experience.   I've only kayaked twice, and it's a very different experience from fishing in a boat.   Kayaking feels like I am sitting directly on the water.  The feeling is completely different.

 10.  Cruises

Have you been on a cruise?  Although I am not advocating to go on a cruise right now because of the world temperature.  I have only been on one cruise during my lifetime.  It was a 3-day cruise and I loved it. My children took me for my birthday.  I also have one relative that practically lives on a cruise ship.   She spends more time on cruises than at home.   A cruise can be relaxing thanks to the friendly staff.   America could learn from the remarkable hospitality here. My children would sleep late on the cruise until 1 or 2 pm.  I was up 7 or 8 am which they said was too early.  So, I would find friendly groups to eat breakfast with.  I also met many new people. The fact that they had food 24/7 was very relaxing.   Knowing that I did not need to plan what I was going to cook but just choose what meal that I wanted to eat when I wanted to eat it.   These were a few relaxation tips for you.   What do you do to relax?
