A.
Women
There
was a time in history when women were not allowed to vote. According
to History.com there was a time a married woman could not vote, but
also could not own property and had no legal claim to any money she
might earn. Can you imagine? They further add that the 19th
Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which was ratified on August 18,
1920 granted women the right to vote. Now today women are CEO’s
and owner’s of their own companies. So women definitely should
exercise their right to vote.
B.
Blacks
Did
you know that there was a time blacks were not allowed to vote?
According to history.com even though the 15th Amendment
was ratified in 1870, discriminatory practices still prevailed to
prevent African Americans from voting. Blacks were told they had
the wrong date to vote, applications were filled out incorrectly, and
some were even given a literacy test. In 1965 President Lyndon B.
Johnson signed the voting rights bill banning the use of literacy
tests. The right to vote should be exercised by all that are of
voting age. Also, note that according to the Amendment that gives
Blacks the right to vote, it would be revisited in 25 years. In
other words, Congress would need to vote at that time again to
determine if Blacks are allowed to vote, such a heavy weight for
Blacks to endure.
Note:
I sincerely feel for the dreamers, since President Trump announced
he could use executive order to change the birthrights of immigrant
children that were born in America.
C.
Absentee Ballots
Now
there is not excuse for not voting. Absentee Ballots are allow for
those that are not able to make it to the polls to vote. Note that
there are many taking advantage of the absentee ballots. If you are going to be out of town at that time, an absentee ballot would be perfect for you.
